Senior Group Engineering Manager - Gatwick

Purpose of Job:
This is a strategic management role responsible for the effective delivery of engineering services to your main customer, Gatwick Airport with oversight at an extended group of airports. Including the support of external business development activities and the line management of senior engineering staff based within Gatwick Airport and extended group airports.
Principle accountabilities:
- Manage the engineering operations at the primary group with oversight at the extended group airports to ensure delivery of a service that is compliant with regulatory and customer requirements.
- Organise and manage resource deployment across the primary group with oversight at extended group airports, so that competent engineering staff are available at all times to meet contracted service obligations.
- Maintenance, planning and control of the engineering budget for the primary group with oversight at the extended group to meet agreed business plans and targets.
- Ensure Responsible Person (Electrical) at the primary group with oversight at the extended group of airports where we are the ANSP service provider and, within agreed demarcation agreement with the airport customer is discharged in line with corporate guidance.
- Development and coaching of all engineering staff within the primary group and oversight at the extended group to assure continuity and support future succession plans. Support all the primary group and extended group engineering business development and sales activities. Managing and supporting customer relations, proposition development, bid activity for external opportunities and delivery of projects to support growth targets.
- Provide oversight and support to all engineering services eg operational, bid activity and project delivery in their extended group of airports as required.
- Maintain the integrity of the operational system (people, procedures and equipment) for the primary group with oversight at the extended group airports, so that safety performance is maintained to agreed standards.
Additional Duties:
- The role holder would be expected to communicate directly with airport customers and service stakeholders to all relevant operational managers and teams. Internally this would include communicating peer to peer with all service lines and supporting teams.
- Must be able to prioritise actions under pressure and, have a logical and practical approach to problem solving. Would be expected to assess and resolve service failure issues using own initiative, while minimising customer impact.
- Be adaptable, flexible and responsive to business needs at short notice and in alternative locations.
- Must be the holder of a full UK driving licence and be willing to drive company vehicles both on public roads and on airfields.
- The role holder would be expected to act as a deputy to the Head of Service Delivery (Region) as required and provide support in respect of achievement of identified performance targets.
Autonomy:
- The jobholder is a decision maker and has the autonomy to deploy resources and make strategic decisions on all engineering matters within the primary group and provide oversight on such within the extended airport group.
- The jobholder is the overall decision maker in respect of the engineering operation within the primary group and/or relevant defined external maintenance contracts. Providing oversight on within the extended airport group.
- The jobholder would be expected to support the development and delivery of engineering business opportunities within their primary group and specific targeted opportunities and provide oversight within the extended airport group.
- The jobholder would be expected to act independently and with minimal referral for approval.
Complexity:
- This post has responsibility for the overall performance of all engineering contracts (internal and external) within the primary and extended groups and must ensure engineering services are delivered to customers through the effective deployment of resources at all times.
- Support bids and/or consultancy for new engineering business opportunities and possess the ability to identify technical solutions and support requirements.
- Accountable for the medium and long term decision making with respect to the airport(s) service provision and systems such that the service integrity is maintained as high as is reasonably possible and that any system failure is resolved within the agreed contract response criteria.
