NATS Solutions are currently seeking to recruit an Air Traffic Services Assistant (ATSA) to join their team based at Wattisham in Suffolk. At Wattisham, the Army Air Corps (AAC) conduct training for aircrew to fly the Apache helicopter in its intended operational role. 
 
The Air Traffic Services Assistant is responsible for providing a broad range of support activities as instructed by local management to ensure the efficient running of Air Traffic Control and the airfield. Demonstrating a high level of professionalism, providing a general support service to Air Traffic Controllers, and performing duties that contribute to the smooth running of the unit. 

 

Role & Responsibilities

Operating to Company procedures and Regulatory requirements, the successful applicant will provide support within the Air Traffic Service Unit and Marshall Contract where the following tasks will be undertaken (Note the list is not exhaustive and employees are required to adjust their working tasks to meet all Regulatory, Customer and Company requirements): 
 

  • Opening checks which include equipment serviceability checks. 
  • Manning the Visual Control Assistant’s position, which includes monitoring frequencies, recording of aircraft movements and the control of vehicles on the airfield. 
  • Operating the Air Traffic switchboard. Filtering calls from aircrew, military personnel, other airfields and the general public. 
  • Receiving and disseminating of weather observations from the on-site MET office. This includes the recording of Automatic Terminal Information System (ATIS) broadcasts. 
  • Compiling and distributing a daily flight programme and producing the associated flight bookings. 
  • Maintaining operational statistics and databases for Company, Customer and Regulatory purposes. 
  • Assist in document control and other reasonable administration support actives as required. 
  • Receiving and actioning of flight plans. Dissemination of NOTAM’s and other essential flight data. 
  • Coordinate and record the use of Low Flying Area (LFA)10 during airfield opening hours. 
  • General airfield driving duties. 
  • Bird control duties when required. 
  • Any other reasonable support tasks required by the local unit. 

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy is essential for these roles. 
  • A strong team player is required with the ability to demonstrate flexibility in meeting various working demands placed upon them. 
  • Effective communication skills (at all levels of the organisation internal to NATS and externally with customers of NATS). 
  • Good IT skills. 
  • Excellent telephone manner. 
  • New staff will receive on the job training in the various activities undertaken in this job. 
  • A full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience of working in an Airfield environment, or experience working with Military Air Traffic Systems (such as SIS, CADS, MilEAMS and STARS) would all be advantageous but not essential as on the job training will be provided.
