Job Purpose/Overview
A key focus for the role is interacting at the appropriate level to support the portfolio, programme or project leadership team on their change initiatives, setting them up to succeed, facilitating the development and integration of benefits realisation plans and supporting their effective execution in order to realise the stated benefits. This will be achieved through active engagement, coaching, advice and targeted interventions using NATS benefits management framework and by applying lessons learnt across all change initiatives using a consultative approach building credibility as a “trusted advisor”.
Other Duties Include
- Provide a benefits management service and consultancy across the business to enable the delivery of the change initiatives and benefits realisation
- Develop and oversee effective execution of benefits realisation plans on all relevant change initiatives
- Understand, diagnose, and support the mitigation of key business risks and capability gaps within the relevant change initiatives that could impact on benefits realisation or result in benefits erosion and/or unplanned disbenefits and overall impact to business performance.
- Provide independent assurance on the benefits management aspects of change initiatives, support the identification of findings, recommended actions and interventions where appropriate.
- Lead and support benefits management activity throughout the change initiative lifecycle working with the relevant stakeholders. This will include the following activities that align with the benefits management lifecycle:
- Identifying and structuring benefits, including the development of measures;
- Planning benefits realisation, including advising on appropriate measurement of benefit realisation post implementation;
- Monitoring and reporting on benefits;
- Evaluation of benefits, including assurance activities as required;
- Identifying, assessing, and supporting the mitigation of potential risks to benefits realisation;
- Conduct regular reviews of benefits realisation progress and outcomes, ensuring lessons learned are captured and used to refine future benefits management practices, improve forecasting accuracy, and enhance strategic decision-making.
- Drive external engagements with customers and stakeholders, providing clear, transparent reporting on benefit commitments. Ensure that benefit realisation progress is communicated effectively, building trust and demonstrating how investments align with customer expectations and strategic outcomes.
- Develop relationships with key business stakeholders working as a Trusted Adviser; provide coaching, training and mentoring on benefits realisation following relevant frameworks and processes.
- Develop and maintain a core set of benefits management capabilities across NATS. This will include the production of guidance, processes, maintenance of the Benefits Management framework, provision of training and coaching.
- Maintain an external network and reference points to positively influence and challenge the development of internal services and standards.
- Build strong partnerships across the business to promote a shared understanding of investment value, and collaborate to demonstrate how initiatives support strategic goals and deliver measurable benefits to the business and its customers.
- Champion continuous improvement in benefits management practices, using insights from reviews, stakeholder feedback, and industry best practice to refine frameworks, enhance delivery effectiveness, and increase the value realised from change initiatives.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Good honours degree or equivalent knowledge acquired through relevant experience, other qualifications and training/development
- Practitioner level benefits management qualification or equivalent (e.g. APMG International Managing Benefits) or relevant experience
- Significant experience of delivering benefits in a complex business environment
- Demonstrable application, knowledge and experience of defining, tracking and delivering benefit through effective benefit management working across business functions
- Strong analytical skills including financial literacy; works confidently analysing vast amounts of information/data, extracts insights and draws clear conclusions.
- Ability to influence and manage others, resolve conflicts and address instances of resistance
- Ability to build relationships across a wide range of people, including senior stakeholders and technical experts
- An accomplished, credible and respected professional with well-developed communication, influencing and negotiation skills to secure buy-in
- Demonstrates resilience; works well at pace and under pressure within an evolving environment
- Commercial acumen and client focused
- Strong coaching, mentoring and workshop facilitation skills
- Collaborative working style with a clear and relentless focus on delivering outcomes, whilst ensuring that individuals are taken along the journey
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Power BI. Experience in using business intelligence and data visualisation tools is desirable in order to develop interactive dashboards and visual reports that generate insights and support evidence-based decision making.
