Who are NATS?

NATS is the UK’s leading Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). Every year we handle 2.6 million flights and keep 250 million passengers safe whilst in UK airspace. We provide air traffic management (ATM) services to 13 airports in the UK as well as providing these services around the world spanning Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America.

What will the Business Information Technology (IT) industrial placement involve?

This scheme is based at our Head Office in Whiteley (Hampshire) or in our Air Traffic Control Centre in Swanwick (Hampshire) however we have adopted ‘agile working’ which will enable you, where possible, to have the opportunity and flexibility to work in our modern office facilities as well as at home.

Join our Information Solutions (IS) team — a vital part of our business that empowers colleagues across the organisation through smart, secure, and sustainable technology. IS provides a wide range of IT services that help our people do their best work every day — from laptops, mobile phones, and network equipment to collaboration tools, business applications, and data platforms.

As part of this placement, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the IT lifecycle. You’ll work closely with both internal teams and external partners, contributing to real projects that align with our business goals and IS strategy.

  • Service Strategy – Build strong relationships with business teams and help shape the future of our services.
  • Service Design – Work with suppliers to design end-to-end solutions that are user-friendly, reliable, and scalable.
  • Business/IS analysis – Understand user needs, analyse requirements, and support the delivery of impactful changes.
  • Development – Get creative with coding, build custom applications, and collaborate with our Analytics team to unlock insights from data.
  • Architecture – Take a big-picture view of our systems, helping to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Service Operations - Partner with suppliers to ensure smooth delivery and management of IT services.
  • IS Security Management – Help protect our organisation by working on cybersecurity initiatives and staying ahead of emerging threats.
  • IT Service Management – Support the processes and governance that keep our services running smoothly and efficiently.

You’ll also need to pass NATS pre-employment security clearance checks.

Additional vacancy information:

If you’ve applied and have met the minimum requirements for our scheme, you will be invited to complete a variety of online tests. If you are successful in passing this stage, you may have the opportunity to attend one of our virtual assessment centres!

Assessment centres slots will be available to book onto between the 12th - 14th November. They will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams from the 2nd – 12th December.
